5. BAT MATERNITY COLONOY AND SPECIALITY BOXES
A wide range of bat colony boxes, suitable for specific or various species, built to provide the right size space or crevice. They provide bat colonies with safe, predator-free environments to roost, hibernate or have their young. Designed for larger roosts or maternity colonies of crevice dwelling bats especially pipistrelles. External surfaces are black to increase heat absorption and with a grooved landing board for easy access. Our boxes are built using designs based on those recommended by the Barn Owl Trust, Hawk and Owl Trust, RSPB, BTO and others. Since the mid-20th Century, Kestrel and owl populations have faced increasing pressure in Britain as areas of suitable habitat have become increasingly limited. The owl boxes are fitted with hatches for clearing out any jackdaw/squirrel nests in the winter. (note: Barn Owls are a specially protected species and their boxes may only be approached by BTO-licensed researchers). The boxes are fitted with a replaceable landing/exercise platform to protect from talons and a reversible landing perch.
